Thursday marks World Animal Day, a day dedicated to all species of animals worldwide.
People are encouraged to consider adopting a pet if they can provide a good home, while also making sure pets are being seen regularly by their primary care veterinarian.
BluePearl Veterinary Partners based in Kansas City, recommends having your pet be seen by your family veterinarian at least twice a year. Additionally, make sure pets are current on medications like heartworm and flea prevention.
“World Animal Day is a day to reflect on the animals that bring joy to our lives and be thankful for all they do for us,” said Dr. Neil Shaw, chief medical officer at BluePearl.
“One way people can show their thanks is by making sure their pets are current on check-ups and medicine to ensure their pets have the best quality of life.”
