WasteCap Nebraska is offering half-day, small-group workshops that introduce sustainable business concepts and provide a step-by-step approach for companies to implement sustainable business practices, record their actions, measure impacts and market their accomplishments.
"Strive Towards Sustainability"(STS) is a program of WasteCap Nebraska for helping small to medium size businesses save money, reduce environmental impacts and earn recognition for their efforts. The Program is voluntary and self-reporting.
State Farm, Tenneco and Ayars and Ayars, Inc., all of Lincoln, were the first Nebraska businesses to enroll in the program. To view their sustainability accomplishments and related eco-awards, go to www.wastecapne.org/sts.
The next workshop will be held in Lincoln on Wednesday, April 25, 2013 from 8:30AM - 12:00PM at Kaplan University, 1821 K Street.
A second workshop will be held in Omaha on May 1, 2013 at M.E. Group headquarters, 8040 Davenport.
Fees range from $80 to $150 per person. Discounts are available for nonprofits and larger groups.
For more details, or to schedule a workshop, contact Julie Diegel, 402-436-2384x1001, firstname.lastname@example.org.
Key STS objectives are to:
· Provide training in sustainable business practices and a guided standard for improvement;
· Provide public recognition and marketing opportunities for business achievements;
· Create a network of businesses that are integrating sustainability actions into their operations;
· Educate the general public on key sustainability issues.
During the workshop, participants complete an Assessment Tool covering nine sustainability areas - Management, Purchasing, Energy, Transportation, Waste, Facilities, Employees, Customers and Community. The assessment provides the basis for recognizing past achievements and identifying opportunities for improvement. WasteCap Nebraska provides follow-up assistance to help participants achieve their goals. A web profile is created for each participating business to advertise their achievements to current and potential customers.
WasteCap Nebraska’s mission is to partner with business leaders to implement resource conservation strategies that improve profitability, community goodwill and employee pride. A statewide 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, WasteCap Nebraska advances sustainable business practices through facilitation, training and community outreach.
