A Dallas woman who slipped on ice outside of a Bettendorf, Iowa hotel four years ago was awarded $1.2 million by a jury on Friday.
Fifty-four-year-old Brenda Alcala sued after falling outside the Courtyard by Marriott on January 21, 2010, shattering her ankle that left her with a limp. Her attorney said responding paramedics had to spread their own salt on the hotel's sidewalk to reach and help Alcala.
Alcala needed two surgeries on the ankle and had to change jobs for less pay with her Texas consulting firm because chronic pain from the injury keeps her from traveling.
