A Waverly woman has been cited for shooting a dog with a pellet gun because it wouldn't stop barking.
Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner said the owner of the 7-month-old Morkie reported the shooting on Thursday. Sheriff Wagner said 37-year-old Jennifer Wylder got her husband's pellet gun wanting to scare the dog. She had never fired the gun before and said when she shot at a ceramic pot near the dog she missed and hit the animal.
The dog will need surgery to remove the BB lodged in its chest, but is expected to recover.
Wylder was cited for misdemeanor animal cruelty because the injury was not intentional.
