Police make an arrest after a robbery and carjacking Tuesday.
40-year-old Omar Burhan was booked into jail on several charges. He's also known as "Earl Rahn."
Police say the victim, 36-year-old Elizabeth Albrecht, knew Burhan. The trouble started when Albrecht picked him up in her car near South 42nd and Grover.
Burhan and Albrecht made it to 38th and Grover. At that point, Burhan had allegedly demanded Albrecht's purse and pulled out a gun. Police say Albrecht took off running, but Burhan shot her in the leg and wrist.
Amaya Bardon had been playing outside nearby when she heard what she though was fireworks. Amaya looked up and saw Albrecht running to Amaya's house, asking for help. “When I came over here, she was already on the steps and trying to come in, and was like, 'Dial 911!' and she was like, 'He's gonna come back!'" Amaya told WOWT 6 News.
Burhan allegedly took off with Albrecht's car. Police say they found him with it about an hour later near 49th and Northwest Radial Highway and took him into custody.
Vicki Boro, who lives in the neighborhood near 38th and Grover, couldn't believe the shooting happened so close to home. “It kind of freaked me out because that's never happened on our block, ever. Like I said, I've been here for 25 years. It kind of scared me because I don't want no drive-bys or that starting in our neighborhood now,” she said.
Albrecht was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center for her injuries and is expected to be alright.
Burhan is in jail charged with robbery, use of a weapon to commit a felony, felon in possession of a firearm, and false information.
