Wild Ride: Mom Arrested For DUI With Kids In Car

A mother arrested Tuesday night for driving under the influence had her two young children in the car. Twenty-three-year-old Alyssa Jorgensen is being held at the Douglas County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

She'll need to come up with $2,500 to get out. Charges include driving under the influence and trying to leave the scene of an accident, among others. It was her first DUI arrest.

Xianhao Peng, a medical student at Creighton University, got quite a surprise Tuesday night. "I was sitting in my car and then suddenly this just happened." He was hit from behind near 27th and Burt on the Creighton campus by an erratic driver identified by police as Jorgensen.

Peng says Jorgensen unexpectedly hit the gas, causing damage to his back bumper, but then she pulled away. Peng's wasn't the first car she'd hit. Police say Jorgensen was on quite a destructive path.

She hit three parked cars, swerved across the street and hit another parked car, swiped two more before turning into a parking lot where she hit another vehicle in the rear bumper, backed up and continued down a dead end drive, tried to turn around and then hit an electrical box. That’s where police found Jorgensen, still inside her car, finally stopped.

Officers said she put up a fight when they tried to arrest her. She blew a .215 for her blood-alcohol content. All of this happened with her two children, ages 3 and 1, sitting in the back seat.

“I feel sad about that, yeah, especially her car was totally destroyed when I saw her car and I hope those kids are okay,” said Peng.

The children are now being cared for by their grandmother, Jorgensen's mother.
