Wicked Set-Up in Progress

Dozens of local theater workers are in high gear preparing The Orpheum for the road show production of Wicked.

It takes a tremendous amount of work to prepare and about 70 local professionals have been hired to help. It takes about 30 hours to unload and set-up the production.

Although Wicked is a spectacle, Stage Manager David O'Brien said it's a show with a message.

“The show is not just for kids,” he said. “Young parents love it. Grandparents love it because they're able to talk to their kids about it. Whether it's a theme of acceptance or the subject of bullying you know our show deals a lot with that."

The show begins its run Wednesday and continues through May 25th.

By the way, the Wicked crew takes the subject of bullying seriously. A summit is being held at the Orpheum this Thursday involving local high school teachers, youth group leaders, and college students training to become teachers.
