Wichita Child Dies in Hot Car

A Wichita, Kansas man has been arrested in connection with the death of a 10-month-old girl who was left in a hot car.

The girl was the foster child of the man arrested, 29-year-old Seth M. Jackson, and another man.

The child was left in a car parked outside of their home for more than two hours Thursday as the temperature climbed to 90 degrees. The windows were up. The youngster was in a car seat in the backseat of the vehicle.

The case came to light as emergency crews were called to check on an overheated child. They arrived at the scene and pronounced the girl dead minutes later.

According to WOWT sister station KAKE in Wichita, one of the men had picked up the child from a babysitter at 4 p.m., then went home. The second man was in the backyard at the time. Police say a 5-year-old had also been in the car but the baby was forgotten until approximately 6:30.

Shortly before 1 o’clock Friday morning, officers arrested Jackson. He was booked for aggravated endangering a child. Prosecutors are expected to review the case next week.
