A merger between Metro PCS and T-Mobile USA has cleared a major hurdle. After T-mobile's parent company Deutsche Telekom sweetened the deal with a change in loan terms, Metro PCS investors voted to approve the move. The transaction will likely be completed by May 1st.
The White House has a new budget office chief. The Senate unanimously has confirmed former Walmart Foundation head Sylvia Mathews Burwell as director. She will have several important roles, including heading up negotiations on raising the borrowing limit and managing the recent automatic spending cuts.
The Dow was down and S&P and NASDAQ fairly flat after a mix of corporate earnings results.
Sources tell Bloomberg that Amazon plans to release a TV set-top box later this year that would let customers stream video over the Internet into their homes. That would improve access to its expanding video services and put Amazon into competition with other companies that deliver video programming.
