As the weather has been heating up, the Open Door Mission’s Water Patrol has been hitting the streets to help Omaha keep its cool.
Crews cruise various parts of the city handing out bottles of water but in this kind of summer steam, thirst is more plentiful than the thirst-quencher. On Wednesday, the patrols handed out approximately 600 bottles of water in just under two hours.
The Mission is looking for donations to make sure it can keep everyone safe while it's so hot.
The Mission’s James Cummings says, “We want to take care of people's physical needs, and when the weather is this hot, it's very easy to get dehydrated.”
The Open Door Mission is also accepting fan donations to help low income families.
