If you see a member of the La Vista Police Department suspiciously sporting some unusual facial hair, fear not.
Members of the La Vista Police Department are participating in a beard-growing contest, “Fuzz for Food”, which will benefit the Food Bank of the Heartland.
For participating police officers, the beard-growing contest will mean a temporary deviation from a grooming policy that doesn’t allow hairy faces. Officers participating will pledge a $20 entry fee, and the winners will be chosen by a panel of judges in the categories of best overall beard and best effort.
“We’re very proud of our participation in this worthy cause, and we came upon something that would not require our officers to do anything but undergo some minor itchiness,” said Chief of Police Bob Lausten. “So, for the next six weeks, residents may see some of our officers in a somewhat unconventional look.”
The contest will run from November 14 to January 3.
