You might have noticed some changes Monday during your commute along Interstates 80 and 680. Construction is slowing things down.
The work began Monday morning at 6 a.m. and Anita Clark noticed it as she was taking the Pacific Street exit. The added barrels and makeshift lane caught her off guard.
“Little difficult,” she said. “A little unnerving, especially it was still a little dark this morning, so I wasn't expecting it.”
It's just one of many projects that started Monday.
On northbound I-680 between West Center and Dodge you can expect some on and off ramps to be re-worked or closed. Watch for the signs. Also on I-80 eastbound near the i-680 interchange.
In both of those locations there will be an added lane put in and traffic will be adjusted as crews work.
Lastly, there's also work being done on I-80 westbound between the 24th and 60th. In that area drivers can also expect some shift changes and crews will be working to put in another lane.
With all the changes officials want to remind people to be careful and drive slowly.
Although the construction may be an inconvenience some say it will be worth it.
Motorist Matt Flinn said, “I think people need to be patient and cautious, not tailgate and be careful and I think when they are done it will be an improvement and I'm glad they’re doing it.”
All of the projects are expected to be done by October 31st.
In the work zones speed limits do change so make sure you pay attention to the signs.
