Watch Out For Potholes

It’s that time of the year when many of us are stuck dodging potholes, but one neighborhood says their road is particularly bad. They’re hoping the road won’t just be patched, but completely redone.

Driving down 48th Street and turning onto Huntington Ave it’s like an obstacle course on the road. If you’re not careful, you’ll drive right over a pothole. “I try to go around it or really slow down when I get to it,” said Roosevelt Willis.

Willis is hoping the road will be fixed soon. "I know they have a lot of potholes to fill, but something like that would be number one priority you would think.”

Willis says this happens every year. The road is very steep. Neighbors say during the winter city workers put down a lot of salt and plow the area to make it safe. Then when spring comes the ending result is a big pothole. “When it snows the plows come and then the plows dig up the patches. It’s hopeless,” said Ethel Micek.

Ethel and her husband Bud decided to call the city’s hotline. They want the road to be redone. "It should have been dug up and repaved, but that hasn't been done for a long time," said Bud.

Until then they’ll keep dodging the mess, hoping their car won’t suffer long term effects.

The city says because of the recent cold rainy weather it’s been tough for them to get out to fix the potholes. Now that the weather is expected to get warmer, workers will be out in full force.
