Sheriff's offices in Iowa are warning residents about a phone scam involving fake outstanding debt.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office says a caller has threatened to arrest residents if they don't pay an outstanding debt via wire transfer, a prepaid card or a debit card.
The caller claims to be a deputy with the sheriff's office.
Similar phone calls were reported earlier in the year. Authorities say the calls are not real.
Residents are encouraged to report any incidents to local law enforcement.
