The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says the break was
discovered on the southeast corner of the lake on Monday, but a DNR
environmental specialist says it appears it had been flowing into
the lake for a few days.
Officials investigated a report of the sound of water running
and found untreated wastewater discharging into a culvert, which
runs under a street and into a grass waterway. It then runs into
ravine where it flows into the lake.
The DNR children and pets should be kept away from the shoreline
and out of the water for the next 48 hours in the Wheelers Woods
area and bacterial levels at other swimming spots could be
