Warren Buffett At "Lunch For The Girls"

Nearly 800 of our friends and neighbors had lunch with one of the richest men in the world Monday.

Warren Buffett attended the annual luncheon for Girls Inc. Called "Lunch For The Girls", the $100 per plate fundraiser featured Buffett in a sit-down interview with CNBS's Becky Quick.

"I love it to see kids getting a chance to learn getting a chance to have the same opportunities that my children had," Buffett said to a jam packed crowd at the CenturyLink Center.

The CEO of Berkshire-Hathaway has become a siren for equality in many areas of American society.

"It is inappropriate to have the widening differential that we've had so the American people are already there and politicians will become serious about it when they think people at the polls are serious about it," he said.

Buffett sees organizations like Girls Inc. as the great equalizer that gives everyone a chance to start life at the same place.

Girls Inc. works with girls from five to 18 years old to inspire them to be strong, smart and bold.

More than 12,000 girls are helped annually through Girls Inc's centers and outreach programs.

Most of those young women come from single parent family households.

Thirteen-year-old Dae Johnson says Girls Inc. teaches her about her everyday life.

"I'm learning about how we can get along with others without being violent and so much more," she said. "It's good to have these positive things to go into."

Haley Turner says Girls Inc. can help her reach her goal of becoming a lawyer.

"Because they help us get scholarships which will help me take on my journey to college," she said.

Buffett spoke of taking advantage of opportunity to better oneself. That's something 16-year-old Yadira Cardenas picked up at Girls Inc.

"I've learned how to be outgoing," she said. "My self esteem was low when i first started and it got me up and now I'm really outgoing and loud."

Buffett several times remarked how organizations like Girls Inc. can help give those at a disadvantage early in life gain success in whatever endeavor they attempt. He also offered a few educational and personal improvement tips as well.

"Do a lot of reading and learn how to communicate and you cant miss," Buffett said.
