A warning to anyone heading outdoors to enjoy the weather, there has been a spike in thefts from cars at local parks.
One of those parks, Lake Zorinsky. On Tuesday there were a lot of people out at the park fishing, running, and walking. Many of them left their car in the parking lot.
One father said he always tries to take precautions to make sure his car isn’t broken into at the park. "I keep my car within eye shot and you know I like to roll down the windows because I don't want it to be too hot, but then if my back is turned is someone going to try and grab something. Particularly having little ones we tend to make sure things are safer,” said Jesse Osborne.
Police say those are all good ideas. Other tips to help protect your car is to make sure it’s locked and don’t leave valuables inside. Also, park in well lit areas and record serial numbers of any important items inside, so if it does get lost police can try and track those items down for you.
