The La Vista Police department is hosting a Citizen's Academy. It's been a longtime tradition that strengthens the bonds between the department and the community.
Anyone can apply to participate. And many in this class have a special interest in the criminal justice field.
"I'm actually currently working on my masters degree at South University, for criminal justice, with an emphasis in cyber crimes. So that actually got me interested in seeing how law enforcement works," said Dan Monical, Citizens Academy.
It's a very hands on experience, participants get to touch and use some of the police equipment.
