It's not a South Beach or Cancun destination for some area college students on spring break.
But a chance to help their own community at a grass roots level.
More than 130 UNO students made the Open Door Mission their destination for spring break this week.
They are helping fill pantry boxes for the needy in our area as part of the seven days of service program.
Organizers at the mission say they appreciate the help.
“Volunteers are very important to us. We couldn't do what we do without volunteers. There is another group of students that are in our kitchen helping prepare and serve a hot nutritious meal today," Jim Cummings said.
Students will help out at the mission through the week.
The students we spoke with say it's a chance for them to give back to the community.
