A sheriff in southeast Nebraska is putting the word out that public visitations at the county detention center will end Friday until further notice. This is to allow contractors time to improve the visitation process.
Gage County Sheriff Gus Gustafson says the contractors will remodel the visitation area, which will include the installation of new upgraded equipment called Communication Information Devices for video visitation and court arraignments.
The sheriff says the upgrades should make visitations at the Gage County Detention Center safer for staff, inmates, and visitors. He is asking for the public’s cooperation through the process. No timetable has been announced for the project to wrap up, though the sheriff tells WOWT 6 News that he would like to see it done in 30 days.
