Violent Crime Part Of Area Growing Pains

The area around Ralston on south to Sarpy County is growing. There are many new buildings and homes. There is also new, bold and violent crime in the area.

Two aggressive crimes happened within 15 minutes of each other Tuesday night. Surveillance video shows an attempted armed robbery at Little Caesars Pizza at 82nd and Harrison in Ralston where a customer was pistol-whipped. The suspects didn't get any money.

Minutes later, the men moved on to the Radio Shack at 84th and Hogan in Papillion. With guns drawn, the suspects shot an employee in the leg.

Police believe the crimes are connected. “I can tell you by the radical movements and some of the things they did it was certainly thought out and planned,” said Papillion Police Lt. Chris Whitted.

All of this concerns Jeff Daily. His Ragazzi's pizza parlor is next to the new Ralston Arena and is almost a year old. “Safety is a big priority for us. We want to make sure all of our kids who work here have a safe environment when these type of situations happen. That's the first thing we do is redouble our efforts."

His business is part of the growth in this part of the metro. Police worry about the pains that come with the growth of any community. “I think these robberies, whatever jurisdiction, are to be a concern and you're right, we don't see that here, it's very rare,” said Lt. Whitted. “I don't think we've ever had a robbery when there was a shooting, at least in this jurisdiction.”
