Thursday was a busy day for law enforcement officers in Council Bluffs. They teamed up with Union Pacific for a railroad enforcement effort. Channel 6 News rode along with engineers as they gave police a front seat view of what they encounter on a daily basis.
Officer Darren Budd was among those who took position near the tracks. They waited for drivers to break the law. They found plenty.
He said it’s scary when you consider, ‘A train weighs millions of pounds and if that hits your vehicle that's going to cause some problems for people.”
Tony Pierce with Union Pacific said people get impatient. We watched with Pierce as car after car hurried around crossing gates. Sometimes, we saw children racing to beat the train.
