Veterans Day is Sunday and students at Papillion-La Vista South High School held an early ceremony on Wednesday.
Many students listened as the Offutt Air Force Base Brass Assembly played several songs. Then four area veterans were recognized for their service. The "missing man table" was set with six empty places representing the Americans still missing from each of the five service areas plus one place for civilians.
“Normally, Veterans Day passes and it doesn't get quite the recognition it should, so having the ceremony in school and allowing the freshmen and other students to come out of class and think about it and be able to reflect on it, I think it's a good opportunity,” said senior Emily Nichols.
The ceremony closed with the ninth-grade choir performing.
