A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Nemaha County in Nebraska until 5 p.m. and eastern Fremont, southeastern Mills, southern Montgomery and Page counties in Iowa until 5:15 p.m. Sunday.
Veterans Honored At Memorial Park Ceremony
People gathered at Omaha's Memorial Park on Sunday, Veterans Day, to honor those who have served and are serving our country.
Served and sacrificed, that’s what our veterans have done. Among those in the crowd was Tyler Fendrick and his Boy Scout troop. “We are coming here to hand out programs and celebrate Veterans Day with all these great people that have served in all these different wars and have given us the right to live in this great country.”
One of the veterans who attended was John Dickinson, who served in World War II. “It’s an important day for the veterans to come out and be recognized for their service.”
It’s a day that means a lot to Dickinson and to Vietnam veteran Ronald Miller, who said Vietnam was a tough experience. “When we came back from Vietnam we never had a welcome back.” He said now, that’s changed.
Vice Admiral Tim Giardina, deputy commander of USSTRATCOM, spoke at the ceremony. “Today, every veteran can be certain the nation you served and the people you defended are grateful.”
Each speaker during the ceremony thanked service members, something Fendrick also wanted to do. "Thank you for your service and just thank you for all you’ve done.”
