Police have arrested a 17-year-old girl in connection with the hit-and-run accident that killed an Omaha man Friday night.

Mikala Rinehart of Omaha was booked Saturday on a felony count of leaving the scene of an accident causing death. Sixty-four-year-old Frank Huerta was struck while crossing the intersection of 42nd and H streets around 10:45 p.m.

“He was a loving guy, he cared about everybody," said daughter Star Huerta-Nunez. "Even if he didn't always show it, he had the biggest, softest heart. He absolutely did not deserve to go like this and everybody has to own up to their actions. That was my father, he left three kids behind."

Star does find comfort in the pictures she has of her father and the necklace he gave her last year, a cross. "I cherish those memories now because he brought a little bit of religion into my life.” Now her faith is that he's in a better place. "That's comforting to know that he's with both of his parents now, that is comforting."

Police are asking anyone with information about the accident to call 402-444-7867.
