By Friday's deadline, three candidates are vying for the opportunity to represent District 8 on the Omaha Public School Board.
The Nebraska Legislature and Gov. Heineman abruptly wiped out the entire Omaha Public School Board recently and ordered a new election. The number of seats was reduced from 12 to 9. By Thursday, District 8 had no candidate and the deadline to file is Friday.
Lacey Merica (D), Meg Cordes (NP) and Juliana Garza(NP) have all thrown their names in the hat, all are non-incumbents.
The primary election for the Omaha School Board will be held April 2.
Since the Omaha School District dips into Sarpy County, the Sarpy County election commissioner is preparing to hold primary and general elections just for the District 8 vote.
