The threat of snow later this week is forcing some schools to reschedule some after school activities. For high school swimmers and divers though, there’s no rescheduling the big State Championship and so coaches are doing what they can to make sure their team’s make it.

Inside Ralston High school these Ralston and Gross swimmers and divers are hard at work, preparing for the upcoming State Championships at the end of the week. “There’s a lot of excitement, a lot of mental preparation. Just a lot of working coming together for one pivotal moment,” said swimmer Jacob Quint.

It’s one pivotal moment that just happens to fall on this Thursday and Friday in Lincoln, that’s when the swimming and diving preliminaries are taking place. Those are two days that are expected to be a big mess for traveling because of a big snow storm. “That was my main concern, how are we going to get down there and what kind of trouble is that going to create,” said Quint.

Coach Docker Hartfield decided the team needed to travel to Lincoln early. “I’m making the conservative decision to go down Wednesday night, so that we have no transportation issues, no crisis, and the kids can focus on their event,” said Hartfield.

The school is paying for the team to stay there. Their motto is better safe than sorry. These athletes are thrilled to know they will be able to focus on the pool instead of the snow.
