The United Way of the Midlands held its fundraising campaign kickoff event Tuesday August 26 in the Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center on the campus of the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
The United Way's campaign is the largest human service fundraising effort according to Shawna Forsberg, the interim president for the United Way of the Midlands.
The United Way is starting a new focus called "United By Strength" which is geared towards helping individuals in the classroom to make sure that they are prepared through mentoring, tutoring, parent workshops, and workforce readiness.
After the campaign is over, The United Way of the Midlands hopes to reach over 800 companies in the Omaha area with more then 72,000 donors.
The goal that the United Way announced it wanted to reach was an astounding 23.7 million dollars.
