No one was injured in North Platte when an explosion blew the top off a 6,000 gallon oil tank. It happened in a Union Pacific rail yard about 12:30pm Thursday.
U.P. spokesman Mark Davis said the North Platte Fire Department used foam to fight the resulting fire at the railroad's Bailey Yard. It took about an hour to extinguish the blaze inside tank.
Fire Battalion Chief Bill Kleinow says the tank top landed about 50 yards away.
The cause of the blast is being investigated.
