November is Native American Heritage Month.
Celebrations were underway Saturday in Council Bluffs.
Several groups representing Union Pacific Railroad held an event at the Union Pacific Railroad Museum.
The celebration highlighted the unique Native American objects on display at the museum.
Professor Taylor Keen, an expert from Creighton University, and former member of the Cherokee Tribal Council, was a guest speaker.
He said it's important for everyone to remember the history of our land.
“To really know the truth of what has transpired here in the state, and hopefully by knowing our own history, that we won’t make bad mistakes again, and will continue to make good decisions," he said.
Keen says he's happy to speak to groups any time he is asked.
