Unemployment rate drops slightly south of the metro. According to the Nebraska Workforce Development-Department of Labor report, the August (preliminary) unemployment rate in Cass County was 4.4%.

The August rate is five-tenths of a percentage lower than the county’s rate in July. The rate was at 4.4% in June, 4.1% in May, and 4.4% in April.
The county unemployment was at 5.3% in August of 2011.
The August 2012 rates from neighboring counties with the change from a year earlier in [ ]: Otoe 4.0% [-1.0], Lancaster 3.4% [-0.5], Saunders 3.8% [-0.5] and Sarpy 4.1% [-0.5].
Nebraska’s August unemployment rate was 3.8%, seasonally adjusted, down 0.5 from the July 2012 rate. Last year, the August statewide unemployment rate was 4.4%.
The seasonally adjusted national unemployment rate in August was 8.2%, down 0.1 from July. Last year, the August national unemployment rate was 9.1%.
The reports reflect only those adults actively looking for jobs.
