The Nebraska Department of Labor announced on Friday that for the first time in Nebraska, everyone who files a weekly unemployment insurance claim starting Sunday, December 2 will do so online.

Online filing replaces an automated telephone system and allows claimants to complete all of the most important steps to receiving benefits in one location.

“This is a huge leap forward for the NDOL and our mission to use technology to make the lives of Nebraskans easier,” said Director of Economic Development and Commissioner of Labor Catherine D. Lang.

“The NDOL website is now a one-stop shop where claimants can utilize various tools to help them become reemployed.”

These tools include an online work search log, which is required to receive benefits, and the NDOL’s job site, NEworks.nebraska.gov, where claimants register for work and post their resumes.

Employers can complete unemployment tax and benefit functions online through the NDOL website.

After filing an initial claim for benefits, claimants must continue to request benefits for every week they are unemployed or their hours are reduced.

Individuals who do not have a personal computer are encouraged to file their weekly claims at their local library or one of the 15 NDOL locations throughout the state.
