The University of Nebraska at Omaha will establish a center to help integrate community service into campus research and teaching.
The creation of the Community Engagement Center was approved Friday by university regents. UNO officials say the center will drive campus outreach and expand opportunities to serve the public through applied research projects, learning initiatives and community collaborations.
University documents show the center will cost almost $24 million and be paid for using private donations, most of which have already been secured.
Construction of the two-story facility is anticipated to begin next October and wrap up in late 2012.
