Up All Night To Honor Veterans

It’s a tribute to prisoners of war and those missing in action, as we edge closer to Veterans Day.

Since midnight Tuesday, members of U.N.O.’s Air Force R.O.T.C. Detachment 470, have been standing guard over the memorial to honor soldiers who never returned home from war.

About 2 a.m., several were braving the cold and rain at the college’s Pep Bowl, where the temporary memorial is set up. They said, while they’d hoped for better weather, they’re more than happy to face the elements. The small sacrifice is a way to show their respect and shed light on an important issue.

Said Cadet Major Greg Reis, “That takes a lot of strength beyond even what the normal personnel has to go through. So we're here to honor them for that."

Cadet 3rd Class Daniel Florance added, “This is certainly something for all the students on campus. This is something they can see. This is something they can participate in."

But at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, a vigil bigger than the student population, will be held on campus. The public is invited to attend. If weather conditions are a problem, the Pep Bowl tribute will be moved inside the Milo Bail Student Center.
