The University of Nebraska at Omaha is once again organizing the annual Three Days of Service event over UNO’s fall break, Oct. 13, 15, and 16th.
During Three Days of Service, volunteers comprised of UNO students, staff and faculty, as well as high school students and community volunteers, are partnered with non-profit organizations to assist with service projects in the Omaha, Council Bluffs and Lincoln areas.
A few of the organizations UNO is partnering with this year include Habitat Omaha, Habitat Council Bluffs, Youth Emergency Services, Open Door Mission, Stephen Center, MICAH House, the Bemis Center and People’s City Mission.
Through the various service day partnerships, volunteers are able to grow in their understanding of the challenges faced by those within the community, meet new people, learn new skills and gain awareness of how they can give back to the community.
“UNO SCLS is dedicated to education and developing students, and others who are serving, as engaged community citizens and leaders of community stewardship,” said Kathe Oleson Lyons, director of SCLS. “We provide students and community members the opportunity to learn and serve on various university service days like Three Days of Service.”
Check-in begins each day in the Milo Bail Student Center at 8:15 a.m. with the day starting at 9 a.m. and wrapping up at 3 p.m. Lunch will be provided during the day and those who arrive early can have their selection of projects.
