UNMC Award
The University of Nebraska Medical Center chapter of the Academy of Student Pharmacists recently was named one of the nation’s outstanding chapters at schools and colleges of pharmacy by the American Pharmacists Association.
UNMC was awarded second runner-up in chapter achievement in the AAA division (schools of up to 350 students) for 2010-11. The award is based largely on the patient care activities that a chapter conducts during the year.
Students were recognized for their work in providing blood pressure, bone density, cholesterol, and glucose screenings to hundreds of people at area grocery stores in the local area and rural towns in pharmacies in Broken Bow, Lexington, Beatrice, and West Point. They also provided patient counseling for hypertension, diabetes, heartburn, and osteoporosis.
