Chancellor Harvey Perlman unveiled the plan Friday at the University of Nebraska Board of Regents meeting.
The proposal would translate to an additional $3,100 to earn a degree in the College of Business Administration, and a $3,000 increase for students in the College of Engineering.
Perlman said the charge would help improve educational services and keep the university competitive with its peers.
He said the amount would be scaled up proportionally for non-resident and graduate students.
Perlman said the charge also would apply to courses taken by students who are majoring in other areas. He said the university hoped to formally bring the proposal to the board in June.
