UNL police nabbed another bicycle thief after he allegedly stole one of the department's own bikes Thursday night.
One of their bait bikes was stolen from a bike rack at an undisclosed location around 11 p.m. Sgt. Casey Ricketts said police dispatchers were able to follow the GPS tracking system installed on the bike and direct officers to that location. The suspect was found near 14th and Stadium Drive.
The suspect's identity was not able to be confirmed so he was lodged in the Lancaster County Jail for larceny. He will remain in jail until he can be positively identified.
The department has equipped bikes of various types and colors so they will blend in with other bikes. The bikes were placed in several locations throughout both campuses. Some were left locked while others were not. When they moved an alarm was triggered and dispatchers alerted of the theft.
