UNL Campus Put On Alert After Nearby Shooting

A message was sent out by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Alert System Sunday morning advising students and staff that police were looking for a shooting suspect near the campus.

Police said a man shot a relative in the leg during a dispute around 9 a.m. The shooting happened outside of an apartment complex on the 2200 block of W Street, directly across from the UNL Children's Center.

People were advised of the shooting and search along W Street between North 22nd and North 23rd streets. The campus was not placed on lockdown. The university canceled the alert by 9:30 a.m.

The shooting victim was hospitalized with injuries not considered to be life threatening. The suspect was later arrested.
