An off-duty police officer reports he saw three young men stealing from cars parked outside an Omaha movie theatre Saturday night. When he approached, they took off running.

The officer was working security Saturday night at the Great Escape Movie Theatre near 72nd & Crown Point Plaza. At 11:09pm, he observed the men pull on the doors. The doors were locked because all of the final movies of the night had already started.

The officer reports observing the men approach several cars that were parked outside. The men walked away with bags they did not have before. The men walked to an open field east of the theatre. They dumped the bags and then began sorting through them.

When the officer approached, the three men took off running. The officer managed to capture 19-year-old DeJon Stewart. Police determined that he was in possession of about $2,000 worth of jewelry that was stolen from a car in the parking lot.

Stewart lives just a few blocks southeast of the move theatre.

The other two suspects were not located.
