Two workers were taken to the hospital after a temporary stairwell collapsed near 13th & Jones.
It was around 2:30 p.m. on Monday. The employees were working on the stairwell attached to a building that's under construction when the wood under the stairs gave way.
Omaha fire crews initially said 4 people were injured. At least two workers fell 20 feet. One was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Another suffered serious injuries.
At no point was anyone trapped in the building or was there any risk of further structural collapse.
Just a week after the building collapse at International Nutrition, Battalion Chief Troy Brannen says a call for a collapse had the crews preparing for the worst. They even brought in extra equipment.
This collapse was isolated to the temporary stairwell.
The building is being renovated into the Jones13 Apartments, scheduled for opening this summer.
