Omaha police say two different traffic stops Friday night led to the arrests of six suspects on a combination of charges including illegal guns and drugs.
The first traffic stop happened at 5:40 p.m. at 24th and Templeton. Before pulling the car over, gang prevention officers report seeing people inside the vehicle throwing something out the windows. The officers recovered two stolen firearms from the area the items were thrown.
Twenty-three-year-old Kevin Johnson, Jr. was booked for possessing a stolen gun, possessing a gun by a prohibited person, driving with a suspended license, possessing less than 1 ounce of marijuana, and two traffic violations.
His passenger, 18-year-old Samuel Brookins was booked for possessing a stolen gun, having a concealed weapon, and illegally transporting a gun. Another passenger, 19-year-old Steven Muldrew was booked for possessing less than one ounce of marijuana. Also arrested, a 17-year-old juvenile for having a concealed weapon, being a minor in possession of a weapon, and illegally transporting guns.
The second incident happened at 11:10 p.m. just north of 36th Avenue and Ames. Gang prevention officers contacted two people next to a parked vehicle. One of the people had a gun. Both were taken into custody. A 16 year old juvenile was booked for possessing a stolen weapon and resisting arrest. Also arrested, 23-year old Akeem Jones for disorderly conduct.
