Two OPS students receive a national award. Benson High student Katie Glessman and Burke High student Jared Polack were awarded with the JROTC Legion of Valor award.
It's the top national award for the JROTC. Only 29 kids in the country were donned with this honor.
"Unreal," said Polack. "It's the only word I have to describe it. It still really hasn't set in, they told me about a week and a half ago, in class. I was really surprised."
The competition is very stiff, on average only one is selected out of every four-thousand.
"It means a lot because to get this award you have to be like top notch, and it basically is saying I can do whatever I can put my mind up to," said Glessman.
The areas the students are judged on include academic excellence, leadership potential, and community service.
