The West O Street on-ramp to Interstate 80 in Lincoln remained closed Thursday as cleanup continues following Wednesday’s fiery semi crash that claimed two lives.
According to the trucking company, U.S. Xpress of Chattanooga, Tennessee, the semi hauling dry goods was being driven by a husband and wife team from East Canton, Ohio. Family has been notified, but authorities will not be releasing their names pending positive identification.
A preliminary investigation by the Nebraska State Patrol indicates the truck was eastbound on I-80 when it struck a guardrail, went down an embankment, landed on the on-ramp and caught fire.
A portion of eastbound I-80 was closed for about an hour-and-a-half. Westbound lanes were closed for a short period due to heavy smoke from the fire.
