Two people were injured in an accident at a Beatrice fertilizer plant Friday morning.
Beatrice Fire Capt. Jake Carrel said one person who was seriously injured was taken to a Lincoln hospital. The other person's injuries were less severe, so the person was taken to Beatrice Community Hospital. The two were contract workers and one has already been released.
Carrel described the accident just before 5 a.m. at the Koch Nitrogen plant northwest of town as an explosion that produced no fire. A company spokesman characterized it as a pressure release.
The plant produces anhydrous ammonia fertilizer, but no hazardous material leaked.
