LaVista police said major backups resulted from multiple accidents on I-80 eastbound near Giles Monday afternoon.
Officers told Channel 6 a two vehicle accident near the Harrison interchange caused the original back up of already heavy Labor Day traffic.
That's when, according to police, someone in that traffic didn't slow down. Their white SUV ended up slamming into two more SUV's, bouncing off one and into the other.
Police closed off that section of eastbound I-80 while they cleaned up the debris.
The passenger in the white SUV was transported to the hospital.
The only other injured person was treated an released on scene.
The driver of the vehicle that didn't slow down told Channel 6 he was having problems with his arm, but would be okay.
The accident shut down that portion of I-80 for about an hour, while police rerouted traffic using exit 144.
