A man and woman are recovering from their injuries at the Nebraska Medical Center following gunfire in Omaha Tuesday night.
Thirty-two-year-old Nathanial Grant was shot at a residence near North 96th and Fort streets shortly after 11:30 p.m. Twenty-seven-year-old Angel Brown was assaulted there.
Those who live nearby, say it's normally a quiet neighborhood where most everyone knows each other.
Gene Smick returned home Tuesday night near the intersection and found something he had never seen before. It was a lot of police cars and rescue personnel.
“Being naturally curious, I started walking down the block. About three cruisers, and an ambulance, and a body in the street,” he says.
While Grant was shot and Brown was assaulted, police haven't released any suspect information or a motive.
The department did say the suspect drove from the scene in Brown's vehicle.
In WOWT 6 News' investigation, we found evidence Grant may have staggered out onto the street. There was a pool of blood on the street, and another one on a porch a couple of houses over.
Some neighbors don't see this happening again.
“It's an isolated incident. I just kind of makes everybody say 'Huh! What the heck is going on?'” says Smick.
WOWT 6 News reached out to the Nebraska Medical Center to check on the condition of the two victims.
We were told they weren't allowed to release any information due to the investigation.
