Two brothers drowned in southwest Iowa this weekend, after they fell through the ice on a pond.
The Adam’s County Sheriff’s Office says it happened Saturday, just before 6 p.m., at a pond in Prescott, which is between Red Oak and Creston.
The boys’ parents called police when they said the two had been playing outside, but they couldn’t find them. The parents saw a hole in the ice in the middle of a nearby pond with clothing near it, and directed emergency crews there.
Crews were able to find the two boys under the ice and get them out but efforts to revive them on scene were unsuccessful. Two medical helicopters took the boys to separate hospitals where doctors pronounced them dead.
Powers Funeral Home in Afton says services are pending for 11-year-old T.J. Frey and 9-year-old Nate Frey. Both attended school in Creston.
