A traffic accident near 24th and St. Mary's Tuesday morning left behind an overturned SUV and a smashed mini-van. Two men were seriously hurt. Three young girls escaped serious injury.
It happend around 11:30 a.m.
Keagan Mathos saw the crash in her rear view mirror and was quick to turn around to check on everyone.
“The kids were all out of car seats by the time we got up here,” Mathos said. “All of them were already out. The three men were already on the ground in a lot of pain. I don't think the kids are hurt, the men in the truck are very hurt."
Witness Tami Kpoiasz said, "We kind of watched over them two guys to make sure they were OK because they looked like they were hurt the most."
Two men from the SUV were severely injured and loaded into rescue squads. A third unit was called for a young boy, a passenger in the mini-van.
Former director of the Nebraska Department of Corrections, Bob Houston, said his niece Laura was driving. Three other nieces and a nephew were also inside the van. They were not seriously hurt.
Houston said, “They are all safe and I don't know about my one nephew but the three little girls are doing just fine."
Police said the three little girls were properly secured by car seats. Their injuries could have otherwise been more severe.
