Two CB Men Sentenced for Bank Burglary

Two Council Bluffs men were sentenced Wednesday for pulling off a bank burglary last year. The men used a stolen vehicle to pull an ATM from its base in the lobby of the Farmer’s Bank & Trust in Earling, Iowa.

The crime happened in the middle of the night on April 12. Robert Edie was sentenced to serve 34 months in prison followed by 24 months of supervised release. Patrick Eggerling was sentenced to 15 months in prison followed by 36 months of supervised release.

U.S. District Court Judge John A. Jarvey also ordered each man to pay $100 special assessment to the Crime Victim Fund and ordered them to jointly pay $10.918.80 in restitution.

After the crime, the two men triggered a dangerous high speed chase. Deputies from the Harrison County & Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s departments and troopers from the Iowa State Patrol pursued the men. At times the chase reached 90 miles an hour in the wrong direction on the interstate.

Eventually the driver, identified as Robert Edie, lost control, became airborne, crashed through a fence and came to rest in a field. They were arrested while hiding in a ravine near the crash scene.

Officers recovered the ATM which still contained the money. Both men were on probation or parole at the time of the crime.
